What's Happening in Myrtle Beach Government
On Friday, March 10, 2017, I attended a luncheon held by the Coastal Carolinas Association of Realtors. Our speaker was Mark Lazarus, Chairman of the Horry County Council. He talked about all of the happenings around Myrtle Beach with plenty of positivity. Here are a few items he discussed:
- Horry County has a healthy budget and Lazarus stated that there will be no tax increase this year. In fact, he doubts there will be any tax increases in the next few years.
- The Myrtle Beach police department is fully staffed and on budget to add more officers to the force this year. The police recently busted a prominent local gang and confiscated a huge supply of drugs and weaponry, cleaning up our streets and making them a little bit safer.
- Highway 31 is expanding: once construction is complete, you will be able to hop on 31 and go from Holmestown Road in Surfside all the way to North Carolina and never hit a stoplight.
- International Drive is also expanding to accommodate the growing population out in Carolina Forest.
The outlook is good for growth in Horry County and the Grand Strand. We stand prepared for more people to relocate, retire, and enjoy all that we have to offer!
